I can analyze galaxies and the differences between galaxies. I will compare the Milky Way Galaxy to other types of galaxies.

I used a Photo Story for  my first proficiency. Photo story was easy to work with and I got all of my information put on. I have to remember to make this into a video to put it on my blog though otherwise it will not work.

Untitled from Paityn on Vimeo.

Some of the slides are blurry and you can't read them. I am posting all of the words on the photo story.

 Spiral galaxy
A spiral galaxy is shaped like a disk with a bulge in the center.
A spiral galaxy is like the milky way.

Irregular Galaxy: What is an irregular galaxy?

An irregular galaxy has undefined shapes, gas, dust, and  stars.

Elliptical Galaxy: What is an elliptical galaxy?

An elliptical galaxy  contains old stars, little gas and dust. It also can vary from flat to round spheres.

Milky Way: What is the milky way?

The milky way galaxy is a spiral galaxy and it is shaped like a disk. The Milky way Galaxy compares to other galaxies because elements, forces, and energy relationships that occur in the Milky way also exists on other galaxies.

Comparing the Milky Way to other galaxies

The elliptical and milky way are compared in many ways. They both look like circles from where we can see them. The elliptical galaxy though has many old stars and does not usually activate new stars in that galaxy.

Though the elliptical galaxy may have older stars this galaxy can range from small to large. Though we do know that the milky way is very large and holds many stars and moons.

The spiral galaxy is an easy comparison to the milky way. The milky way is in fact a spiral galaxy. Spiral galaxies hold middle aged stars, dust and gas.

The milky way is what we call a spiral galaxy. To some this means that the milky way is one of the most beautiful of galaxies. That is because there are many bright stars in this galaxy. Unfortunately these stars burn out very quickly.

An irregular galaxy has irregular shapes, stars, dust and gas. There are not many ways you can compared these for the milky way is a spiral galaxy and has stars, dust and gas.

Essay:
Key Technological Advances

In 1608 the telescope was invented. Though, most believe that Galileo invented the telescope that is not true. The man who actually invented the telescope was Hans Lipperhey. Hans Lipperhey was born in Wesel, Germany. Though he was born in Germany he made his home in Middleburg, Zeeland which was part of the province of the Netherlands. He married in 1594 and became a citizen in 1602. He then invented the telescope which was made in 1608.
Then the space race approached. The first event in the space race was October 4, 1957. Most people don’t know what the space race is though. The space race was a competition between the Soviet Union and the U.S. So on October 4, 1957 the first artificial satellite sent into space. Then On November 3rd, 1957 the first animal was sent into space. The animal was Sputnik the second. This was also sent into space by the Soviet Union! This dog was courageous for going up into space. The next event that happened in the space race was for the Americans to send a satellite up into space. This was the first thing the Americans accomplished for the Soviet Union was ahead of them. This event happened January 31, 1958.
The Space race continued and the Soviet Union was still ahead. They sent their first human in space on April 12, 1961. His name was Yuri Gagarin. We then quickly followed with sending our first person; Alan Shepard into Space on the date of May 5, 1961. Then just 20 days later Jfk made a space in front of congress will walk on the moon before the end of the decade. On March 18, 1965 the Soviet Union had the first person complete a space walk.  Finally on July 20, 1969 Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon. Now to this day the Soviet Union and the United States have joined together for the International Space Station.
Some people may ask what a space craft is. A space craft is a small shuttle where no people are in it. These space craft’s were invented so that explorers could see what is happening on other planets without having to go up into space. Also some planets such as Venus and Mars are not sustainable for them to fly up into. Also other planets such as Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are too far to travel to.
Another Key Advancement was the space shuttle. This space shuttle is the world's first reusable space craft. Before they invented these astronauts would launch to space with capsules on top of the rockets and then when they would come down they would drop into the ocean or land in large fields. The space shuttle would only be used once and would waste fuel. That is why the space shuttle was a great advancement in space.
I hope that one day in space we may be able to send large robots up into space to scope out for us. I also hope we can improve our space shuttles that we go up into. We could also maybe build house on the moon so that  astronauts researching wouldn't have to stay in a cramped quad but could instead stay in a house. That is what I think of Key Technological Advancements.

Greek Mythology

The first constellation I am writing about is Ganymede also known as Aquarius to us.  Ganymede, before he became Aquarius, was the son of Tros; King of Troy. One day as Ganymede was tending to his flock he was spotted by Jupiter. Jupiter was interested in this boy tending to his flock so he ran to tell the God’s. The God’s also seemed interested in this boy for the reason that is unknown.  By order of the God’s, Jupiter came down in bird form and took Jupiter away to the heaven. To this day, Aquarius still serves water and wine to the God’s on Mount Olympus. There is a song that is supposedly sun by Orpheus who is the musician born of Apollo. She sings this song to the God’s while Aquarius is serving wine and water:
"The king of the gods was once fired with love for Phrygian Ganymede, and when that happened Jupiter found another shape preferable to his own. Wishing to turn himself into a bird, he none the less scorned to change into any save that which can carry his thunderbolts. Then without delay, beating the air on borrowed pinions, he snatched away the shepherd of Ilium, who even now mixes the wine cups, and supplies Jove with nectar, to the annoyance of Juno" (Bell)
The next constellation I am researching is Cancer the crab. The myth begins with Zeus who is the controller of the sky. Zeus was a very important man in Mount Olympus so love affairs were common to him. He was having his love affair with Alcmene queen of Tiryns at the time when Alcmene was with child. Unexpectlively, Hercules was born. Now, Hera Zeus’s real wife knew about these affairs. She knew that Zeus had had many love affairs before this but this one really irritated her because of this son. She swore that someday she would kill Hercules no matter what it took. Though, Hera had tried to kill Hercules many times before she had never succeeded because of his strength. Then the day came when Hercules was fighting the sea serpent Hydra. Hera decided to send along a crab that would heal the sea serpent when she was hurt. After the sea serpent was healed the crab started biting Hercules feet. Hercules crushed the crab with his foot and continued on fighting Hydra. As a reward for its bravery Hera put the crab in the sky. You can find the crab between the constellations Leo and Gemini.

The next constellation is Canis Major. Canis Major is the first dog of Orion the brave hunter. There is not much information on Canis Major, but there is information on the brightest star Sirius. Ancient civilizations called this star; red and fiery but today it stays a consistent white. Sirius is Canis Major’s part of the nose and it magnitudes a 1.5 in the sky and 8.6 light years away. Some myths have said that many people have owned this dog including
"Procris,
The daughter of King Erechtheus of Athens and wife to Cephalus, a son of Hermes. " (Vally)
But, I believe that this dog has always been the loyal trustee of Orion himself.

The next constellation is Canis Minor, the lesser dog of Orion the hunter. This dog is thought to be the water dog because it is on the edge of the Milky Way. This also has a myth that this dog belonged to Icarius. Icarius the owner then died but no one could find her body. One day Mera; known as Canis Minor was searching for his owner. He barked and barked until Erigone; Icarius’s daughter came.  She was so over take by what had happened that she took her own life. As the loyal thing do Mera, Canis Minor died also. The god’s saw this as the loyal thing to do and put him in the sky but that was just another myth. Canis Minor is like a big white sub giant f5 star in the sky. The magnitude of the star is .4 and is 11.2 light years away.

The next constellation is Centaurus-the centaur. Centaurs are mythical creatures with a human head and torso on the top and centaurs body on the bottom. The most famous Centaur would be Chiron. Though he is not in the sky; Centaurs is who represents him. Chiron was the first to identify the constellations and teach them to humans. Another myth predicts the Chiron was placed in the sky by Zeus. They say he was wounded by a poisonous arrow and was in pain because so he decided to give up his life for mortality.

The next constellation is Pavo the peacock. Hera, wife of Zeus was always on Mount Olympus watching from below. One day as she was watching, she saw Zeus. As many know Zeus had many affairs. His latest affair was with beautiful women named lo. Again, Hera became mad and irritated. Zeus was known that when his wife got angry he was known to run off until his wife settle back down to her normal self.  So Zeus turned lo into a cow and ran off. Hera decided to go and find Zeus and left lo with Argus the multi-eyed creature. She commanded Argus to guard lo while she went and searched for her husband. While Hera is gone Argus and lo got in a fight. Hera then placed his eyes on a feathered bird which became the peacock. This constellation is 190 light years away.

The last constellation I am talking about is Corvus the bird. Corvus the bird was the bird of Apollo. He had beautiful white and silver feathers and a wonderful life.  One day he was sent to get water and immediately return to Apollo with the water and get prepared for his next job. While Corvus was on the way to get his water he had stopped by a fig tree. The figs were not yet ripe so Corvus, being the bird that he was decided to wait for the figs to ripen. After the figs had ripened and Argus at them all only then did he remembered that he was supposed to return with Apollo’s water. Corvus quickly gathered the water and headed back to Apollo making the excuse that he was stalled by the sea serpent. Though, when Apollo heard this he knew that Corvus had made this up because Apollo himself was no dumb. At the hearing of Corvus lying to him he immediately turned Corvus’s feather’s black and an ugly caw. He then placed Corvus on the back of the hydra serpent and put the water farthest away from Corvus. That way he could never cure his thirst.

                                    The singing constellation

The microphone lay peacefully on the ground. No one had touched it in years for no one had the same voice as Mercedes.  Most people don’t know the story about Mercedes. This girl didn’t always have the most beautiful life. She was born into a poverty of a family. She had 3 brothers and sisters each. No one really payed attention to Mercedes for she was the oldest and was represented as the one who took care of everyone and was sort of seen as the mom. No one noticed how at night how she cried herself to sleep. For, she hadn’t recognized that she had the most beautiful voice. This wasn’t until the 63 day of March 2000, when Mercedes found her voice. She wasn’t trying out for the annual talent show, or singing in her free time because she had none. She was forced to sing. During the day, Mercedes watched her brothers and sisters and was forced to play and do whatever they wanted. But there was a day when her brothers and sisters wanted to put on a show. Her first sister’s talent was to curl her hair. The second and third sister’s talent was to eat a pickle. Then Mercedes picked up a microphone and sang. Her voice was soothing and could put babies to sleep. SO the kids did go to sleep and Mercedes also slept. Twenty six hours later; which in our time would transfer to (2 minutes) the kids woke up. They sprang around the house until Mercedes finally woke up. At this time the Gods looked down upon Mercedes and sent the Sand Man to put the kids to sleep.  Then they made Mercedes perform at the Constellation Theater and she became a star over night! To this day Mercedes still sings every day and night for the gods. They put a microphone in the sky so that whoever looked up could remember the beautiful voice.
